What to Store for the Holidays

Televisions: Did you save money to get that big screen TV to watch sports from home or parties with your friends and family? Protect your investment and store all your big screen TV’s at Centron Self Storage to ensure your items are out of harm way while the house or apartment is empty.

Computers: If you have more than one home computer (desktops, laptops, computer accessories and hardware) don’t run the risk of having the items go missing or damaged in case weather gets the best of the area during the holidays.

Audio/Visual Equipment: If you’re not taking the home camcorder, digital or SLR cameras, these are additional items you can store for the holidays.

Sporting Equipment: Don’t leave your bicycles and other sporting items laying on the front yard. Calculate your storage space to determine where type of unit you can put the items.

Family Heirlooms: Nowadays we don’t hear people talk about family heirlooms because they are either trying to keep them safe and avoid discussing the issue or trying to hide them from the kids on a weekly basis so they do not break or go missing. Get extra protection and put the items in storage.

Christmas after the holidays: If you are waiting to celebrate the holidays when you return but have a bunch of gifts to hide, put them in a Centron Self Storage unit for safety.

You can store anything for holidays if you’re going to be away for a few days or weeks. Get your storage plan for the holidays done early so you can leave for your vacation with piece of mind.

Weekends Are Good for Home Cleaning

The weekend usually symbolize a time for relaxation, spending time with family and friends, preparing meals for the week, movies, date night….and  oh yeah, home cleaning! Let’s all be honest and say cleaning is not the most favorite task of the week but it’s a necessary one to keep the home rodent and pest free, and looking GOOD for unexpected visitors. Have you ever had a moment where you were cleaning and came across items you have no use for any longer? How many times have you said I don’t want to throw it away but its taking up space? If either situation plague you, its sounds like you need a self storage unit to keep valuables you do not want to toss in the trash.

Centron Self Storage Solutions in North York has two amazing facilities in local neighborhoods to fit any need. While you are cleaning this weekend and maybe blasting the stero to your favorite tunes as you make your way around the home, take a piece of pen and paper and write down all the items you can put in storage. Declutter but keep your valuables is our key phrase today!

What’s in the Closet: If you’re like me, I used my closet to store my partners junk, man stuff, antique items, and his gazillion boots and shoes.  This man did not need all those items in our apartment closet so I told him it had to go into storage. Does this situation sound like yours? Write down the items in your partners man cave or woman’s den, prioritize the list of what to keep and what to put in storage.

What’s Under the Bed: Did the clutter monster jump out and scare you silly? That means its time to clean the dust from under the bed, secure the lost socks in sock heaven, and put the unwanted but valuable items aside for storage. Aren’t you glad you have home cleaning tips to help with your storage needs now, when was the last time you looked under the bed?

What’s in the Entertainment Center: If you’re reading this blog post, you have switched over to the digital age. You do not need Queen’s entire musical discography in your entertainment center unless its that most prized vinyl. Even then, store the items because you’re either keeping them because you do not know what to do with them or you like to show off your musical taste. I am sure your last guest walked into your home with a iPod stuck in their head. Store old CD’s, tapes and albums.

What to do Next After Home Cleaning

After your home cleaning task for the weekend is complete, on Monday,  take your boxes down to Centron Self Storage!

Making the Most of your Rental Storage Spaces

Once you’ve made the decision to use rental storage spaces for your excess personal, household or business items, you’ll want to optimize your unit to get the greatest value possible out of it. How can you do that? Here are a few organizational tips that can help you make the most of your storage unit.

Boxes–The more consistent the size and shape of your boxes, the more space efficient your unit will be. At Centron Storage, we offer sturdy boxes for sale in a selection of uniform sizes. Try to divide up your heavier items into small boxes, as this will make moving quicker and easier.

Clothes–To keep clothes in the best condition, you may want to store them hung and loosely packed. You can also purchase our wardrobe boxes which come with built in rods and are enclosed to keep clothes protected from dust.

Padding–Wrap your delicate and fragile items with padding to guard against breakage and handling. If you have excess towels and linens, these can be an effective and a cheap way to softly pad your items. For your convenience, we also make bubble wrap and padding available for sale at each of our facilities.

Labelling–Label each box with a list of the contents inside, and store the boxes in such a way that you can easily view the label at a glance. It’s also a good idea to make a full list on a separate sheet of paper detailing all your boxes and their contents. Keep a copy at home and one at the storage unit so that you’ll know exactly in an instant what you’ve got stored without having to move things around and open up boxes.

Storage Plan–Unless you need large items soon, store them at the back of the unit where they won’t block your access to smaller items inside the unit. If you’re moving house, it’s usually best to keep at the front of the unit any items that you’ll have need of immediately once you move into your next home, such as kitchen and washroom items.

Whether you’ll need your goods soon or farther into the future, using a basic organization plan can help ensure that you get the most out of your rental storage spaces.
